Photograph: Ahmad Mora/Getty Images87 mins: Boos and whistles as Liverpool have the ball. They appear to be playing with a front four, with the substitute Koumas joining Gakpo, Isak and Barcola.
86 mins: His shot hits only a spectator.
85 mins: Mac Allister is booked for bringing down Akturkoglu, and Fenerbahce have a decent chance to shoot from the resulting free-kick, which Akturkoglu himself appears to fancy.
84 mins: The commentator wonders what this result could do for Kuyt, “right at the start of his time as manager of Fenerbahce”. Um, I think you’ll find it’s the end.
82 mins: Now Van Dijk at the other end heads goalwards, but from far enough away that Ederson can fall on it.
81 mins: Ally McCoist on co-commentary wants to know why Alisson didn’t come for the cross as it arced slowly into the area, and really he is the one who might have prevented the goal.
And now Liverpool trail! It’s just an excellently-placed header from Muriqi, from eight yards or so. Brown’s cross from the right was the opposite of flat, and looped droopily onto the substitute’s head, but he planted it beyond Alisson’s reach and into the corner!

75 mins: It’s a Kante cross chipped in from outside the area. Alisson comes for it but Gakpo, in front of him, gets his eyebrows to the ball and flicks it past his goalkeeper, leaving Brown with a tap-in!
Liverpool’s second lead lasts less long even than their first!

Photograph: Dilara Senkaya/Reuters71 mins: Nearly a lovely break from Liverpool let by Barcola, who eventually plays in Gakpo but the pass is fractionally overhit, the Dutchman decides that Ederson is going to get there first, and instead the ball rolls out of play.
Alexander Isak, seconds after coming off the bench, is presented with the best chance of the game by Gakpo’s left-wing cross, and though Ederson gets two hands to his header it’s from only three yards out and he can’t keep it out!

65 mins: Another save! It’s Muriqi, the freshly-arrived substitute, from away to the right of goal, with a shot that’s well struck but from too wide to beat Alisson.
64 mins: Archie Brown gets away from Gomez with absurd ease, skips merrily areawards and shoots wide.
63 mins: A substitution! Vedat Muriqi comes on for Lukaku.
62 mins: Munoz’s shot is well cleared by Skriniar, though it was going wide anyway, and Liverpool’s 10th corner comes and goes without incident.
61 mins: Gomez gets the ball in the Fenerbahce half and nobody closes him down, so he runs towards the penalty area, and then a bit further towards it, and at some point he decides he should probably have a shot now he’s this close, which inevitably he scuffs well wide.
59 mins: Munoz covers Brown’s run well enough, but he hits his clearance into the Fenerbace left-back’s chest and the rebound falls kindly for Brown to hammer a shot at goal, which is saved.
57 mins: Saved! And again saved! The first is Barcola’s shot towards the near post but turned around it, and the second is Van Dijk’s header from the resulting corner, which he should probably have buried but goes straight into Ederson’s gloves.
56 mins: Fenerbahce boot the ball out of defence pretty aimlessly, but when you’ve got Lukaku around these things can be useful, and he heads it on to Kahveci who’s suddenly scurrying into Liverpool’s half. But Nyoni does well to track him, and dispossess.
55 mins: Another better spell for Liverpool, though it would be a stretch to describe anything about this game as control. “Wondering about a Greek yoghurt conglomerate sponsoring a Turkish team,” wonders Tim Smith. “Would not appear to be the most natural of fits.” The (yoghurt) culture wars.
52 mins: A Liverpool corner isn’t quite cleared, and when eventually it’s sent back in Mac Allister heads feebly at goal, and Ederson catches.
50 mins: The corner dips towards Van Dijk, but as it does so he gives his marker, Kahveci, a bit of a push and the referee sees it.
49 mins: The second half is continuing in much the same pell-mell vein as the first. Ngumoha goes on a nice run, which ends with a shot from a very acute angle, deflected wide for a corner.

It was a half of two halves for Liverpool, one encouraging, the other concerning, as the out-of-form sixth-best side in Turkey made them really uncomfortable. It wasn’t just the atmosphere they were struggling with. Still, they have parity, and their nominal striker – Barcola in the first half – can’t be any less influential in half two.
45+2 mins: A breathless half ends with an offside call against Barcola, but with the home side having enjoyed an excellent spell, and the scores level.
45+1 mins: There’ll be one minute of stoppage time.
45 mins: Save! Lukaku plays Greenwood into space beyond Greenwood on the Fenerbahce left, and he stings Alisson’s palms with a shot.
43 mins: Lukaku beautifully sets up a teammate for a shooting chance at the edge of the D. Sadly the player he sets up is Kante, who isn’t much of a goalscorer.
41 mins: … and it’s headed to Yuksek, 30 yards out, whose shot misses the target by at least that distance.
41 mins: Fenerbahce win themselves a corner for the first time. Liverpool have had and wasted six.
39 mins: Fenerbahce are really troubling Liverpool at the moment. They zip the ball around the edge of the visitors’ box for a while before working it to Greenwood, whose shot goes just wide of the near post.
37 mins: Barcola’s header from Munoz’s left-wing cross bounces a foot or so wide.
35 mins: This is all very frantic. Iraola spoke yesterday about how his team needed “to try to kill the confidence and momentum they can have with the supporters”. They have not done that.
32 mins: Another chance for the Turks! This time Lukaku gets into the right side of the area but what follows is neither cross nor shot, and duly is a goal kick.
31 mins: It was not good defending from Jacquet, who jumped in the wall as if his priority was not preventing a goal but preventing himself getting hit, twisting to get himself side-on. The ball then skidded off his thigh, and past Alisson.
Another deflection, and another goal! This time it’s Mason Greenwood, from a free kick, whose shot was going well wide before it hit Jacquet.

27 mins: Now Fenerbahce hit the bar! A cross from the left, an outstretched leg in the centre, and the ball smashes into the woodwork!
