Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is renewing its focus on infrastructure development, improved sanitation, and strengthened efforts to restore Kumasi’s status as the Garden City as part of its major budgetary targets and developmental policies for 2027.

This follows the assembly’s approval of its 2027 budget at the Third Quarter Meeting for the year, which brought together Assembly Members to deliberate on the 2027 budget, action plan and fee-fixing resolution.

Speaking at the meeting, Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the city’s Garden City status to attract investors and create employment opportunities.

He noted that the Assembly had implemented most of its projects planned for 2026 and would intensify efforts in the coming year to improve infrastructure and address poor sanitation in the metropolis.

“When there is order and peace in the city, it will attract more investors to establish businesses and help bridge the unemployment gap in Kumasi. I will lay the foundation for restoring the Garden City, which successive leaders can build upon,” he said.

On healthcare, Mr. Ofori Agyeman Boadi indicated that the Assembly would sustain efforts to transform its existing clinic into a fully fledged children’s hospital and paediatric centre to improve access to specialised healthcare for children.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the KMA, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, appealed to the presidency and the Ashanti regional coordinating council to prioritise the completion of the abandoned Krofrom Market project.

He emphasized that completing the market would provide absolute relief to traders, particularly market women, who need a suitable facility to ply their trade.

Mr. Frimpong urged the national and regional leadership to offer the necessary attention to the project, noting that its completion would improve trading conditions, support commercial activities and contribute to the economic development of the metropolis.

The Assembly’s deliberations on the 2027 budget, action plan and fee-fixing resolution are expected to guide its development priorities and planned interventions for the ensuing year.
