Germany is one of Ukraine’s largest military, financial and humanitarian supporters. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has repeatedly reaffirmed Berlin’s commitment to supporting Kyiv.
Zelensky’s visit comes as Ukraine prepares for another round of diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war.
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff has announced that Ukrainian, Russian and US officials will meet in Abu Dhabi next week to discuss advancing peace negotiations.
The Ukrainian president is also attending a security and defense conference in Berlin, where Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda is scheduled to deliver the opening address.
The conference is expected to focus on Russia’s war against Ukraine and growing concerns over the threat Russia poses to European security.
“We all have an interest in security, stability, and protecting the rules-based international order,” Zelensky said. “And we must work together to turn these principles into concrete decisions and actions.”

Germany is also preparing to host a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a group of Ukraine’s key international allies, in mid-November, Merz said last week.
