Police have launched a double murder investigation after two people including an attorney were shot dead inside a vehicle at the Klipspruit West off-ramp in Johannesburg on Monday.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered the vehicle riddled with bullet holes in the driver's door.
“Two occupants were inside the vehicle: a woman in the driver's seat and a man in the front passenger seat. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds,” the police said.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Mudau confirmed that emergency services declared both victims dead at the scene.
Police have opened two counts of murder as detectives work to establish who was behind the shooting and what prompted the deadly attack.
The female victim has been identified as attorney Nadine Meintjies.
Her death has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity, with Spangenberg Attorneys Inc. conveying their condolences to family.
