Dobsie Grannies were crowned the 2026 champions, with Kings and Queens of Alex finishing as runners-up.

The Dobsie Grannies emerged victorious at the 2026 Wafa Wafa Cup on Saturday, October 31, taking home the championship trophy and a new soccer kit at the Entabeni Sports Ground in Zola 2, Soweto.

The annual tournament, hosted by the Diskie Gogos Foundation, featured eight teams of women aged 55 and older competing for honors, community recognition, and participation certificates.

Participating teams in this year's event included the Sosha Gogos, Mamelodi Sundowns Gogos, Golden Oldies, Braamfischer Grannies, Dobsie Grannies, Kings and Queens of Alex, Motlana Grannies, and Vosloorus Grannies.

Babalwa Nhlapo, the founder and director of Diskie Gogos Foundation, highlighted the tournament’s significance, stating: “These women are already out there playing. The Wafa Wafa Cup is our way of saying: we see you, and we are proud of you. Our work is about showing the women behind the teams, not only the match. This tournament makes their place in football, and in their communities, more visible.”

Runners-up Kings and Queens of Alex received silver medals, training bibs, and two soccer balls. All participating teams were awarded certificates of participation.

Nhlapo stated that the tournament aims to create visibility for older women in sport and encourage active lifestyles.
