Amid major election losses for the US political party that largely supported the Iran war, Iran’s parliament speaker said Wednesday that Americans had rejected war, adding that Tehran supports this message, Anadolu reports.

“Whether out of conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message,” Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said in a statement through US social media company X.

He warned that if the US government betrays the will of its people to serve “international paymasters and blackmailers,” it would face a “nightmare.”

Ali Nikzad, Iran’s deputy parliament speaker, also described US President Donald Trump’s election setback as the consequence of his “defeat against the Iranian people.”

Speaking before parliament, Nikzad said the election results reflected the “failure of US efforts to undermine Iran through economic sanctions and pressure.”

“The delusional US president, who seeks to claim victory through rhetoric on social media, has also suffered a defeat in domestic politics,” he said, adding that these setbacks were “the aftershocks of his defeat against the Iranian people.”

Nikzad also warned against any military adventurism in the Strait of Hormuz, saying it would receive “a crushing response.”

Separately, Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy head of communications and information at the Iranian president’s office, said the US election results reflected a strong message from American voters.

“The world listened to the resounding message of the American people in the Senate and Congress elections,” he said.

Tabatabaei attributed the Republican Party’s defeat to US support for Israeli actions in Gaza, its alignment with Israel’s interests and the war against Iran.

“Human crimes in Gaza, blind adherence to the interests of the illegitimate Israeli regime, and the endless war with the Islamic Republic of Iran brought the greatest defeat in the history of American elections upon the Republican Party,” he said.

The remarks came after US midterm elections on Tuesday, in which Democrats were projected to win control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, in a setback for Trump — who launched the war on Iran in February, along with Israel — and his Republican Party.

Meanwhile, Qatar continues to mediate between Washington and Tehran amid tensions over the US naval blockade and security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran said Monday that it was still exchanging messages with the US through mediators and that reopening the strait depends on Washington ending the blockade.
