Former Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has filed an appeal in the High Court in Johannesburg against the refusal of his bail application.
Sibiya was arrested in September and was denied bail by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court last month. He is facing charges of rape, human trafficking and sexual grooming.
The court found that he had failed to present exceptional circumstances warranting his release.
His legal team is appealing the decision, arguing that the magistrate misdirected herself despite the evidence presented by the defense.
