MANILA, Philippines – The International Criminal Court (ICC) will hold its fifth status conference on former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s crimes against humanity case on Monday, November 2.

This comes weeks before the opening of the trial scheduled on November 30.

A status conference is where parties discuss matters related to the case before proceeding to a full trial.

So far, the court has had four conferences: on May 27, when it announced that the trial will begin on November 30; on June 23, when the chamber cautioned lawyers against granting media interviews; and the third one, on September 16, when the former president made an appearance.

The court held the fourth conference on October 13, where the parties discussed the list of evidence anew.

Duterte will skip the Monday hearing after waiving his right to be present.

For the fifth status conference, the Trial Chamber III and the parties will discuss the following:

  • Daily schedule
  • Audio-visual link testimony and rights of audience
  • List of witnesses and number of hours for the Prosecution’s presentation of evidence
  • Potentially exculpatory evidence, agreed facts, and calling order
  • Rule 68(3) applications and in-court protective measures
  • Security of defense missions

Watch the livestream starting at 5:30 pm (Philippine time).
