KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says the provincial government has put measures in place to ensure this week’s local government elections are free and fair and take place without violence.
KwaZulu-Natal has the highest number of high-risk voting stations, with 165, followed by Gauteng with 119.
Of the high-risk stations in KZN, 124 are in eThekwini, 16 in uThukela, 13 in Amajuba, 11 in Zululand and one in Ugu.
Speaking in Ulundi in northern KwaZulu-Natal, Ntuli says he is confident the elections will take place without incident.
“At a government level, we have done everything to ensure that we safeguard the days of the elections. We have a number of police deployed that will be ready, with even the army deployed will also complement the work that is being done by the police to protect the people and to protect the property.”
“We are hopeful that the people of South Africa want this opportunity, because it’s an opportunity to actually choose who will address the challenges that people are faced with,” explains Ntuli.
