The Electoral Commission (IEC) in KwaZulu-Natal is urging voters to check their special vote approval status and familiarise themselves with the rules with special voting to get underway from tomorrow.

Provincial electoral officer Ntombfuthi Masinga, says only voters whose applications have been approved will be allowed to cast special votes tomorrow and Tuesday.

Special voting will take place at voting stations and through home visits, between 8:00am and 5:00pm on both days.

The main voting day is on Wednesday, when voting stations will open from seven in the morning and close at nine at night. Voters already in the queue at 9:00 pm will be allowed to cast their ballots.

Masinga is also reminding voters that campaigning is not allowed inside voting station boundaries, and that their votes must remain secret.

“We do not allow you to take a picture of the ballot paper once you have voted at the voting station. If you try and do that the election official will stop you and you will be asked to delete that photograph and if you resist, we will have the members of the SAPS on site to persuade you still to delete that photo; otherwise, you will be arrested because it is an electoral offence, to take a picture once you have voted on the ballot paper.
