South Africa is gearing up for the Local Government Elections (LGE) scheduled for November 4th.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has expressed its readiness for the elections and continues to encourage young South Africans to participate in the electoral process.
SABC News spoke to students at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) to find out whether they intend to vote in the upcoming elections.
Across South Africa, 694 882 young citizens aged 18 to 19 are registered on the voters’ roll ahead of the 2026 LGE.

While some students expressed excitement and confidence about participating in the elections, others indicated that they would not be voting.
One student said she had no intention of voting, citing a lack of change and accusing political parties of only delivering services during election periods.
