The Activists and Citizens Forum has expressed sadness at the passing of Parliament’s Secretary to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Advocate Modibedi Phindela.

The announcement of his passing was made by Parliament’s Presiding Officers on Tuesday night.

IN LOVING MEMORY: Parliament pays tribute to a distinguished parliamentary servant whose expertise, sound counsel and unwavering dedication served generations of Presiding Officers, the Council and the broader Parliament and its Members with distinction over many years. His legacy of service will endure. May his soul rest in peace.

Phindela first served as an Under-Secretary before being appointed Secretary to the NCOP in March 2009.

Activists and Citizens Forum spokesperson Dennis Bloem says the country has lost a hardworking and loyal public servant.

“Advocate Phindela served this country with distinction. Some of us who had the opportunity to work with Advocate Phindela in the NCOP can testify that he was a people’s person. He respected his office and simply did his work. He never mixed his position with politics. He treated all political parties equally. This is a huge loss for the country.”
