Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held telephone talks with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on Tuesday to discuss regional developments, efforts to reduce tensions and the possibility of resuming negotiations amid concerns over renewed military confrontation.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions took place Tuesday evening as part of ongoing consultations between the two ministers.
Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said the talks addressed recent regional developments and growing concerns that escalating tensions could trigger further military action.
The ministers also discussed diplomatic initiatives undertaken by regional partners to contain tensions, promote dialogue and facilitate a return to negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.

During the call, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of flexibility and constructive engagement by all sides to achieve a political resolution and prevent further instability in the region.
He reaffirmed that Egypt considers the security of Gulf states a central priority and an integral part of Egyptian and broader Arab national security.
The Egyptian foreign minister also called for continued restraint and intensified diplomatic contacts to prevent renewed military escalation.
Abdelatty referred to warnings issued earlier Tuesday by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi regarding the risks of further military confrontation and its potential political, economic and security consequences for the region and the international community.
The discussions come amid continuing regional diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the United States and Iran, prevent renewed hostilities and revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
